Basic Mechanics

Island world

Where a safe player world exists, consisting of various and different sized islands above the void.

  • Players can have multiple islands, build bridges or portals between them.
  • Players can recreate their islands and choose a biome.
  • Players can ask the island to be flattened at a certain level (eg for map-art) (tbd)
  • Players can enable a glass floor below their island for easy access (tbd)
  • Players can enable a glass floor above their island against snow (or map-art) (tbd)
  • Players can choose to make their islands public by naming them.
  • Players can grant others various permissions on their island.
  • Players do not take damage in the safe island world
  • Players can quickly travel to each other to meet up.
  • Players can control time and weather.
  • Mobs do not spawn naturally (no phantoms either)

The Void

Jumping of any island does not kill you, in stead it takes you to the Wilderness.

  • The drop location is calculated relative to the island location in all islands together rotate as a group. kinda like earth rotating around the sun, the solar system rotating the galaxy. even when more islands get added, every day is a fresh location.
  • The drop location can be fixed on a past day of the year.
  • The wilderness past days resets yearly and future locations reset weekly (tbd).
  • This allows for creation of mob farms in protected claims below your islands drop location (tbd).

Wilderness world

The wilderness is an ever expanding non-safe world set to HARD mode.
The wilderness can be utilized for:

  • resource mining
  • adventures
  • mob farms (yearly reset??)
    Every island has its own unique daily drop location.
  • The drop location is protected against grieving (tbd).
  • A drop location in the ocean provides the player with a boat (tbd).
  • Players can make protected claims in the zone directly below their island (tbd).
    Players are mostly in a vanilla world
  • Players take damage (but no PvP).
  • Players cannot (free) teleport to each other.
  • Players can only jump up (to island) when above ground.
  • Players can create gate portals.
  • Players bring back near non hostile mobs to their island when jumping up.

The Nether

Any and all nether portal teleports the player to the nether. (except the on at spawn, which takes you to your fist island (maybe change to another type)).

  • leaving the Nether brings you back to the Wilderness. (but where? tbd)
  • the Nether resets weekly (?? tbd)
    Players are mostly in a vanilla world
  • Players take damage (but no PvP).
  • Players cannot (free) teleport to each other.
  • Players can leave thru a portal.
  • Players can create gate portals (tbd).

The End

Currently vanilla end mechanics are unmodified

  • fill end portal using eyes of Ender in a stronghold.

  • allow for XP farming in End (non reset zone?)
  • reset frequency.. to keep fair access to shulkers.

  • Convert dirt to grass (by right-clicking a dirt block with seeds)
  • Ender Dragon drops a dragon egg and elytra on death.
  • Grave is made when a player dies at their location containing all their items.
  • Invisible Item Frames (Shift right-click an item frame with brush to make it invisible)
  • Fly command (Toggles the player's ability to fly in island world only)
  • CraftingBench and Enderchest command access.
  • Silence mobs using a nametag
  • Unsticky Pistons (remove slime from pistons by right-clicking them with an axe, Right-click a piston with a slimeball to make it sticky)
  • Back to Blocks (Allows player to craft full blocks from stairs and slabs)
  • Copper Powered Rails (Allows player to craft Powered Rails using Copper Ingots).
  • Craftable Chainmail (Allows player to craft Chainmail Armor using Chains).
  • Craftable Name Tags (Allows player to craft Name Tags).
  • Craftable Saddles (Allows player to craft Saddles).
  • Craftable Small Dripleaf (Allows player to craft Small dripleaves from a large dripleaf).
  • Dropper to Dispenser (Allows player to convert a Dropper to a Dispenser using a Bow, or by using String and Sticks).
  • Log Chests (Allows player to craft Chests from Logs).
  • More Bricks (Craft 4 Bricks instead of 1).
  • More Copper Trapdoors (Craft 12 copper trapdoors instead of 2).
  • More Iron Trapdoors (Craft 8 iron trapdoors instead of 2).
  • More Packed Mud (Craft 2 Packed Mud instead of 1).
  • More Stairs (Craft 8 Stairs instead of 4).
  • More Trapdoors (Craft 12 Trapdoors instead of 2).
  • Rotten Flesh to Leather (Allows player to smelt Rotten Flesh into Leather).
  • Unpackable Nether Wart (Allows player to break down Nether Wart Blocks into 9 Nether Wart).
  • Unpackable Quartz Blocks (Allows player to break quartz blocks down into 4 quartz).
  • Unpackable Wool (Allows you to break down Wool into 4 String).

(idea) Long running group challenges

I used to play a game called "A Tale in the Desert". A MMORPG set in ancient Egypt. The interesting thing about it is that it up to the community (as a whole) to acquire a level of sophistication that allows them to build 7 monuments.
The idea of having a common goal as a community might be something we can work with.. Maybe it can be translated into a long-term pyramid of quests that can only be fulfilled when a group is working together.
I recon this would require a "GameMaster" or "DungeonMaster" to coordinate and set the goals. (As I do not expect such adventures to be coded into the server, the server can probably facilitate in-game tools to manage/track progress).
For example: Start naked (like Soarvival) and work towards erecting a sphinx (complex challenging structure) presented with a big firework celebration with food and drinks for all to see.

This perhaps makes a yearly reset not a requirement.. as these structures can be build in island world. and be preserved. The Challenge could take place in a dedicated wilderness that does not reset during the challenge (so temp farms etc can be build and used).
